I’m still working out what this space is for me. I seem to have posted quite a bit on some of my trips on the bike, and I don’t want it to totally be about that. I’m enjoying engaging with film photography again, so this felt a good moment to change subject for a min…
I’d have to trawl back to see what year this is. I’m going to guess 2016. I’m not quite sure why I was using black and white film at Goodwood Races that day. I must have been a bit short of things to do, for sure nobody was asking me to shoot film.
I’ve always liked the above image. I’d seen Frankie Dettori win, and leap from his horse, loads of times. You know he’s going to do it. But you can’t be sure exactly when, or at least my casual observations hadn’t studied it enough to know. This picture, shot on a Leica M6, manual focus, is the best I think I did of it (It wasn’t something I made much effort on very often).
Back then I was occasionally taking pictures at racecourses on black and white film, around the work I was ‘meant’ to be doing.
I’m feeling very drawn to film at the moment. Sharing a few pictures from that afternoon, some from down in the Winner’s Enclosure and some from the ‘cheap seats’ of people who sit on the hill overlooking the course and watch from afar.
Shot on a Leica M6 with Kodak TriX film.
